📖 SONGS OF SONGS 2
[2] Like a lily among thorns is my darling among the young women.She:
[3] Like an apple[c] tree among the trees of the forest is my beloved among the young men.
I delight to sit in his shade, and his fruit is sweet to my taste
[6] His left arm is under my head, and his right arm embraces me. He:
[11] See! The winter is past; the rains are over and gone.
[12] Flowers appear on the earth; the season of singing has come, the cooing of doves is heard in our land.
[13] The fig tree forms its early fruit; the blossoming vines spread their fragrance.
Arise, come, my darling; my beautiful one, come with me.”
[15] Catch for us the foxes, the little foxes that ruin the vineyards, our vineyards that are in bloom.
[16] My beloved is mine and I am his; he browses among the lilies.
Beloved, God’s peace be unto you. Though it seems Salomon is talking about his lover, and that she also talks about how she is taken care of by the king; we have seen also that there is here a language of poets, it contains metaphors. They symbolize Christ and His church. It is clear that the church is satisfied with that love and remains under the shade of His wings.
1️⃣THE CHURCH IS A LILY AMONG THORNS (verse 2)
📍 Let them rest in the love of God, and the spirit will be kept calm, even under personal abuse. The Lord will clothe them with a divine panoply. His Holy Spirit will influence the mind and heart, so that their voices shall not catch the notes of the baying of the wolves. – DA 353.3
➡️Christ (the groom) Himself said that the bride is a lily among thorns. He said it again in Luke 10:3 that He sent them like lambs among wolves.
👉Though that is the way it is, the church of God, Pilgrims to the new Jerusalem, must rest in the love of God because they have His protection. The Holy Spirit has been given to protect pilgrims’ hearts so that they do not end up behaving like the world, or faint under their oppression.
🙏Let us pray for God to save us from foxes that ruin the vineyards(verse 15), so that when the vineyard Owner comes He may find fruits. We can do all things through Christ who gives us strength.
2️⃣ IT IS HARVEST TIME
📍 Throughout the land bands of pilgrims were making their way toward Jerusalem. The shepherds from their flocks, the herdsmen from the mountains, fishers from the Sea of Galilee, the husbandmen from their fields, and sons of the prophets from the sacred schools—all turned their steps toward the place where God’s presence was revealed. – PP 538.2
➡️Songs of songs 2:11-13, Salomon talks about Passover time in their first month of Abib (Between the end of March and beginning of April), when all the nature was green, domestic animals healthy, and people joyfully ascending to Jerusalem to worship God.
👉Time has come and is about to pass, to make the pilgrimage to Jerusalem a priority. No matter what you may be busy with. Even if you are a studying theology in prophetic schools, examine yourself and see if the pilgrimage to heaven is your priority. Don’t abandon, we are almost there.
