📖 2 PETER 1
[1] Simon Peter, a bondservant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who have obtained like precious faith with us by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ:
[5] But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge,
[6] to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness,
[7]to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love.
[9] For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins.
[13] Yes, I think it is right, as long as I am in this tent, to stir you up by reminding you,
[14] knowing that shortly I must put off my tent, just as our Lord Jesus Christ showed me.
[19] And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts;
Beloved of God, happy day. In his second epistle Peter reminds Christians for the last time that with God’s mercy they should live lives that please God, while waiting for and hastening the coming of Jesus Christ.
1️⃣ CHRISTIAN VIRTUE
✴️ Verses 2-8 Peter sets before Christians steps of the journey of salvation they had to climb until Christ is fully manifested in them.
✳️ “These words are full of instruction, and strike the keynote of victory. The apostle presents before the believers the ladder of Christian progress, every step of which represents advancement in the knowledge of God, and in the climbing of which there is to be no standstill. Faith, virtue, knowledge,
temperance, patience, godliness, brotherly kindness, and charity are the rounds of the ladder. We are saved by climbing round after round, mounting step after step, to the height of Christ’s ideal for us. Thus He is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption.” AA 530
2️⃣ GIVE WARNING WHILE STILL ALIVE
📖 [13] “Yes, I think it is right, as long as I am in this tent, to stir you up by reminding you, [14] knowing that shortly I must put off my tent, just as our Lord Jesus Christ showed me.”
➡️Peter knew that his opportunity to speak on behalf of God was about to end because he was about to be killed. There is a song that says “ Go to your friend while still alive. Warn him while he still has a chance to repent. What have you told him before being separated?” These words show that the opportunity to testify of Christ to others doesn’t last forever. If people can listen to you today, tell them the good news of salvation. Those under your responsibility, those under your management, all who listen to you are a pulpit God has set for you to preach about your savior. Do not waste the pulpit because time will come for you to fall asleep or the opportunity will no longer be there. Work while possible, wait and hasten the coming of the Lord Jesus.
